Personal Counseling: How We Approach Individual Therapy

Mental health is intricate and multidimensional. With our team of expertly trained clinicians, our team is dynamic and best suited to meet your treatment needs. Among the evidence-based approaches used by our therapists are:

Psychodynamic Therapy

Our practice is rooted in principles of psychodynamic theory in that we understand our patients’ difficulties through a psychodynamic lens. Based on the desire to understand what drives us, psychodynamic therapy helps people build insight on the way their current behavior patterns relate to past experiences. Our therapists create a safe space for you to uncover what is at the root of the conflict and resolve what is hindering growth and well-being.

Trauma-Informed Interventions

The reality is that the majority of the population have experienced some form of physical or relational trauma in their lifetimes-this has been proven by robust research. Whether or not we want to admit it, these experiences have real and lasting impacts. In order to not further traumatize our patients, it is imperative that therapists are able to create an environment that is not triggering. Without proper training, therapists are at risk of re-injuring their patients’ emotional lives even in the most basic of interactions. Our management team and clinical staff are trained in trauma-informed care, providing a safe and supportive environment for you to process traumatic experiences and develop coping skills.

Mindfulness-Based Therapies

Mindfulness-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), cultivate present-moment awareness and acceptance of thoughts and feelings without judgment. By learning to observe your emotions and thoughts without getting caught up in them, you can develop greater emotional regulation, reduce reactivity, and cultivate a sense of inner peace. Our therapists are experts in techniques used to bring healing using DBT and ACT approaches.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on the interconnectedness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Our therapists will guide you through identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns that may be contributing to your distress. We’ll work together to develop coping mechanisms and strategies to replace those patterns with more adaptive ones, leading to improved emotional regulation and healthier behaviors.

Your Personalized Treatment Plan

Patients never require one type of intervention, although not all therapists are able to provide a dynamic approach to your care. Our well-trained staff’s ability to intervene using the most relevant therapy interventions available ensures long term results for our patients.

We’ll work closely with you to assess your individual needs, goals, and preferences, and then create a personalized treatment plan that integrates the most effective therapeutic approaches for your unique situation. Your journey towards healing and growth is unique. We’re here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance, support, and expertise you need to achieve lasting change.

The Goals and Process of Individual Therapy

Your individual therapy journey will begin with an initial consultation, where we will get to know you and your concerns. No one is expected to share anything they do not want to share, and we are careful to not ask invasive questions during our first meeting; we do not want to make anyone feel uncomfortable or pressured to talk in any way. When we are ready, we will then work together to develop a treatment plan that incorporates the most effective therapeutic approaches for your situation. Therapy sessions typically last 55 minutes and are scheduled weekly initially, we then taper down sessions once growth has been achieved.
