Education and Expertise
Jon Mathias is a third-year doctoral practicum student in clinical psychology at Adler in Chicago, IL. Jon completed their undergraduate education at Northwestern University where they majored in psychology and minored in creative writing. Jon currently offers individual therapy for patients across the lifespan and works under the supervision of Dr. Montesano and Dr. Guada. As a nonbinary clinician, Jon brings passion and expertise for LGBTQ+ care to Guada Psychological Services and hopes to provide supporting therapies for queer individuals. Jons interests lie in treating mood, anxiety, and attachment disorders, as well as working with adolescents and young adults.
Interest in the Field
Jon reported that they returned to school after working in outdoor education and seeing the power of relational healing in non-therapeutic settings. Jon uses an integrative approach to therapy with an emphasis on interpersonal and relational theories. They also use Adlerian, psychoanalytic, and ACT interventions. In their spare time, Jon enjoys playing music, cooking, and writing fiction. Jon reports that they appreciate creativity and sense of humor and tries to integrate this into treatment when appropriate.
