Dr. Colón has provided individual therapy services for adults and has worked with diverse populations, in a variety of settings. She has exposure to a range of mental health issues, including helping individuals recover from the trauma they experienced across their lifespan and the use of substances as a means of coping. Dr. Colón leans toward a direct therapeutic style that is guided by relational and cognitive-behavioral frameworks. She strives to use her clinical training in a manner that best serves her clients through an exploration of experiences, thoughts, and behaviors which interfere with wellness and overall functioning.

Educational Background and Experiences

Dr. Colón completed her BA at Argosy University in Chicago, IL. She obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with specializations in Traumatic Stress Psychology and Substance Abuse Counseling, at Adler University in Chicago, IL. Dr. Colón has worked with individuals in a variety of settings which includes community mental health clinics, private practice, a substance abuse facility, a state inpatient hospital, a prison work-release program, a residential facility for individuals with severe mental illness, as well as within the educational system conducting assessments.

Area of Expertise and Specialization

Her focus at the practice consists of conducting psychological assessment and is not currently accepting new therapy patients. She specializes in psychological testing across the lifespan (ages 5 years through adulthood) for clarification of attentional difficulties, socio-emotional functioning, and psychoeducational evaluations. Dr. Colón believes it takes a tremendous amount of courage to pursue psychological services and seeks to honor and respect this effort in every encounter. During your work together, her mission is to work as a team to gain diagnostic clarification of your current difficulties through the utilization of data from standardized psychological measures customized to each referral. Her therapeutic style incorporates a warm, direct, and strength-based approach. Dr. Colón strives to incorporate humor, a person’s interests, and mindfulness to assist in feeling safe when emotions are heightened.
