Dr. Gabby Selwocka is another welcome addition to our growing team of highly skilled clinical psychologists. She comes to us with experience working in a variety of settings including: community mental health, schools, inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, corrections, and residential. She is excited and ready to incorporate her experience and knowledge from different settings at Guada Psych and will be working with kids, adolescents, young adults and families in therapy. Dr. Selwocka is also involved in our effort to develop a stronger mental health presence in underrepresented communities across Chicagoland.
Education and Training
Dr. Selwocka completed her BA at Dominican University in River Forest, IL. She then completed a doctoral degree from Adler University located in Chicago, IL. She has trained at some of the most challenging facilities with regards to complex systems presentation, including the Illinois Youth Center, Garfield Park Hospital, Will County Health Department, and NW University’s Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. Her experience working in complex systems combined with her motivation to help those in need make her a great fit for our team.
Unique Approach
According to Dr. Selwocka, “My approach focuses on accepting patients where they are at in their treatment journey while supporting them to make changes that will allow them to be the best version of themselves.” She prioritizes taking an empathic and non-judgmental stance and utilizes a person-centered and relational approach. Dr. Selwocka has advanced skills at utilizing CBT and DBT interventions when necessary as she supports patients working towards lives that are balanced and fulfilling. She is fluent in Polish. Fun fact! Dr. Selwocka is an animal lover, she has two dogs, one cat and an Axolotl (walking fish).
